If you’d rather buy a bouquet than pick your own, there will be a table set up with some precut daffodils along with information on how to pick and make your own bouquets for purchase.
Some year ago, the Maine Daylily Society planted many daffodils among their daylily display garden, showcasing unusual daffodil varieties. These now are proliferating in cheerful and colorful spring blooms. Daffodil bulbs are healthy and easily grown in our climate. They are planted in Autumn, and unlike other spring flowers like tulips, deer and groundhogs leave them alone!
After choosing or picking your bouquet, meander down to enjoy the living Daffodil Sculpture: more than 850 yellow daffodils planted in the North Meadow. Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy’s Land Art, Merryspring’s installation was created in Fall 2023 with help from board members and students from Rivers Alternative Middle School. The golden daffodils bloom for several weeks in front of the Tom Hopps memorial bench.
Another fun spot during your Merryspring Mother’s Day Daffodil visit is the Vernal Pool, where families can spot frogs and salamanders in full swing, making their special spring music and jellies full of eggs.
Bring a picnic and enjoy the beauty among the daffodils and other growing things!
All proceeds benefit Merryspring Nature Center.
Information on the upcoming Annual Plant Sale May 16 and 17 will also be on hand.
