Spotted Salamander, Coyote, Fisher, Bobcat, Otter, Nudibranch, Owl, Purple Sandpiper, Black-legged Kittiwake, etc., etc., etc.. The run down of mid-coast Maine wildlife is basically a ‘who’s who’ of incredible critters – a hefty and diverse list, ready to be observed and learned from. Some critters you might see, hear or smell ‘in the flesh’, and others you might see historic ‘sign’ (not so ‘in the flesh’). And sometimes you find the perfect spot for your trail camera that captures images of and clips of neighborhood wildlife – whatever the case, the lessons are often right there ready for the learning!
Nature observers use the fact that most wildlife are ‘creatures of habit’, (exceptions noted) to their advantage. Being aware of these ‘habits’ and adjusting your own behavior (observer behavior!) can dramatically increase the chance of your experiencing and learning about your ‘neighbors of habit’. With this in mind, and if learning about the critters in your section of mid-coast Maine is ‘totally your bag’ , then boy do we have a presentation for you!
On Tuesday February 11th at 12pm (noon), mid-coast nature observer Kirk Gentalen will be giving a talk about what he’s learned from some of mid-coast Maine’s ‘creatures of habit’. Through slides and stories from personal observations over the last 20 years, Kirk will go over tips and lessons on putting yourself in line for successful nature observations sessions. ‘Twill be entertaining.
