Tuesday Talk via Zoom – Invasive Terrestrial Plant Ecology with Louisa Crane

Louisa Crane will lead an online presentation called, Invasive Terrestrial Plant Ecology, hosted by Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, February 25 at 12:00 pm.
In this talk, Louisa will focus on the pathways through which terrestrial invasive plants are introduced and now spread in Midcoast Maine, and why invasive plants have such a strong competitive edge over native plants. Understanding these ecological qualities of invasive terrestrial plant species is key to successful management. Louisa will use “case study” invasive plants impactful in Maine, such as Asiatic Bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus), Japanese Knotweed (Reynoutria japonica), and Shrubby Honeysuckle (Lonicera spp.), to demonstrate essential concepts about invasive terrestrial plant ecology, empowering listeners to understand the “why” behind various invasive plant control strategies.
